A Country, A County - Divided Civil War Reenactment

A Country, A County - Divided Civil War Reenactment
Caldwell County's "A Country, A County -- Divided" Civil War Reenactment provides the public with a historical, period authentic representation of events that transpired in Caldwell County.

"A Country, A County -- Divided" Civil War Reenactment provides the living historian, the period trades person and the reenactor communities with a supportive venue displaying their respective hobbies and accomplishes all this in a historic, entertaining, and enjoyable manner.

Kingston and Caldwell County are dedicated to making “A Country, A County – Divided” successful for reenactors, vendors and spectators alike and making this a premier event in Missouri.

Lee Teter, who created the ubiquitous painting Viet Nam Reflections, dedicated to the VFW in memory of the heavy price that Viet Nam War veterans paid, has created Imperfect Love for Caldwell County. NEW WEBSITE HIGHLIGHTS A WORLD WAR II-RELATED THEME

World War II was a trying time for the United States and equally so for baseball. More than 4,500 professional players swapped flannels for military uniforms to serve their nation and future Hall of Famers like Bob Feller, Hank Greenberg, Joe DiMaggio and Ted Williams lost vital playing time in the prime of their careers.

Baseball in Wartime is dedicated to preserving the memories of all baseball players (major league, minor league, semi-pro, college, amateur and high school), who served with the military during WW2. More than 16 million Americans and 1.1 million Canadians served with the Army, Navy, Army Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, Royal Canadian Air Force and Merchant Marine in World War II. This site aims to preserve the memories of those whose baseball-playing lives were affected in some way by serving their nation.

Gary Bedingfield (garybed@gmail.com), with Baseball in Wartime, invites you to visit, http://www.baseballinwartime.com.

5 a.m. (YES, that's A.M.) [Meet at KCI to wave a flag for area WWII Veterans]
AND
10:30 p.m. [Meet at KCI to wave a flag for area WWII Veterans]

Jackson County (Mo.) Historical Society and its partner on the Veterans History Project, Americans' Remembered, Inc., have collaborated on a special project you may want to know about. We've assembled a group of more than 40 local WWII veterans and are sending them on an all-expense flight from KCI to Washington, D.C., so they may enjoy THEIR memorial. The WWII Memorial was dedicated on the Mall in DC in 2004. This is an all-expense paid trip for these courageous Americans and our way of saying, "Thank you!" There are two ways you may show your support:

1) Come to the Southwest Airlines terminal at either 5 a.m. (YES, that's A.M.), or 10:30 p.m. (or both) to wave a flag for our veterans!
2) Contribute tax-deductible funds so that we may fund future Honor Flight(s). We already have enough veterans on our "stand by" list to do two more trips, but we need the funding FIRST. FYI: It takes about $350 per veteran to fly them from KCI to DC and to provide their meals for the day.

Call Gary for more information at 913.744.8282 for more information.

Lots of re-enactors, musicals, food, house to house fighting, and the first muster of the SHELBY'S IRON BRIGADE. Shelby claimed Waverly as his home for thirty years. The opening of General Joseph Shelby Park with life sized statue on his horse will take place later this summer. Waverly Arts Council is a committee of Waverly Citizens for Progress and we have a new website, which you may access through the Jacomo Bookmark linked at the top of this HistorE-Calendar.

PRESENTING MISS NARRA LEWIS OF BLUE SPRINGS
Miss Narra (1857-1947) was a well-educated, world traveling, single lady who on occasion swung a hatchet on booze and gambling, collected vintage clothing, and had genteel tea parties for her friends in what later became the Dillingham-Lewis House Museum. She really helped liven up life when Blue Springs was still a small rural town. Meet this very interesting person through photos, documents and artifacts from our Archives and Museum collections. Blue Springs Historical Society, Dillingham-Lewis House Museum, 15th & Main Streets, Blue Springs, MO. Sundays Only from 2 to 5 p.m. For more information, visit their website available through the Jackson County Historical Society's "Jacomo Bookmark" linked at the top of this HistorE-Calendar, or call Jacquelin Page, 816.224.4910.
